Angul, Aug 24: An elephant that strayed into human settlements trampled two persons to death in Angul Forest Division on Thursday morning triggering massive outrage in the locality.
Irate villagers kept the bodies of two deceased seeking compensation for their families.
They also sought immediate measures in place to check human-elephant conflict in the region. The villagers blamed the forest department for the deaths and alleged sheer negligence.
According to sources, an elephant went on a rampage and attacked Sankar Biswal and Jhili Majhi leading to their death while another person sustained grievous injury. The villagers rushed the injured person to the nearby hospital.
