Cuttack, Dec 30: A mutilated carcass of an elephant was recovered on Saturday from the Jagga Behera Tholi Reserve Forest under the Baramba Forest Range in Odisha’s Cuttack district.
Baramba ranger Sitaram Sabar confirmed the death of a 15-year-old tusker.
On being informed from the locals, forest officials visited the spot and recovered the remnants of the carcass which were almost in decomposed state. Subsequently, a Vet team conducted a post-mortem and the remnants were disposed of.
The cause behind the death of the pachyderm is yet unclear. However, it’s suspected that the young tuskers succumbed to long time ailment, without any care.
Investigation is underway to ascertain the cause behind the immature death of the elephant, said a forest official.
