Bhadrak, June 22: Tension prevailed in Chandipur area under Bant police limits of Bhadrak district after members of an electricity department enforcement team were allegedly assaulted while conducting a raid against power theft.

According to reports, the enforcement team raided the locality after receiving information that a family was illegally drawing electricity through hook connections. The accused had reportedly been caught twice earlier for power theft and had paid penalties on both occasions. Despite this, they allegedly continued the illegal practice.

When officials attempted to disconnect the unauthorized connection during the latest raid, the family members allegedly attacked them with bamboo sticks and pelted them with bricks and stones. Several employees reportedly sustained injuries in the assault.

The electricity department has lodged a complaint with Bant police regarding the incident. Meanwhile, a video purportedly showing the attack on the enforcement personnel has gone viral on social media.

Police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
