Baripada, Oct 16: An elderly man was allegedly hacked to death by miscreants in Baisinga area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district late last night.
The deceased has been identified as Devendra Sasmal (61).
As per reports, the incident took place at Madhunanda village under Baisinga police limits when Sasmal was sleeping at the verandah of his house.
Meanwhile, his son Ratnakar, who was sleeping inside the house, heard the victim screaming. Later, he opened the door and came out only to find his father lying in a pool of blood with severed head.
Upon getting the information, police arrived at the spot and recovered the body for post-mortem.
The exact reason behind the killing is yet to be ascertained.
An investigation has been initiated into the matter and efforts are on to nab the culprits involved, said the police.
