
Angul, Sept 10: In a dramatic incident, villagers in Bhaliabeda under Kanihan block of Angul district detained eight men dressed as ‘babas’ (holy men) on suspicion of attempting to abduct a child.
According to local sources, the men-believed to be from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh-were traveling in a car when they were allegedly seen trying to kidnap a child. One of them was reportedly caught in the act, prompting immediate action from the locals, who detained all eight individuals.
Eyewitnesses say the group had entered the village claiming to be ascetics, but their suspicious behavior raised alarm among residents. One of the detained men was found to be conversing in Odia, suggesting he might be a local, while the rest reportedly hail from other states.
Upon receiving information, a team from Rengali Police Station arrived at the scene and took custody of the men. They have been taken to the local police station for further questioning.
Police have confirmed that an investigation is underway to ascertain the true identities of the men and determine the purpose of their visit to the village. As of now, no formal charges have been filed, but inquiries are ongoing.
