UAE Odia Community Seeks CM’s Help to Retain Critical Air Link

The Prabasi Odia Samaj Abu Dhabi (POSA) has formally requested the intervention of Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi regarding a pressing connectivity issue facing the Non-Resident Indian (NRI) community. In a letter dated November 26, 2025, the organization expressed deep concern over reports that the direct air link between the state capital and the UAE is scheduled to be grounded next month.

According to the POSA Management Committee, the Bhubaneswar-Abu Dhabi direct flight (IndiGo 6E 1441/1442) is likely to be discontinued after December 11, 2025. Describing the service as a "lifeline," the organization emphasised that withdrawing this flight would sever a vital socio-economic link for residents of Odisha.

A Regional Hub for Connectivity

The association highlighted that the benefits of this route extend beyond Odisha. Travelers from neighboring regions, including Visakhapatnam, Ranchi, and Kolkata, frequently utilize this service due to its convenient timing and connectivity. Furthermore, Abu Dhabi serves as a critical transit point for passengers moving onward to other nations in the Gulf region.

Strategic Advantages for International Travelers

A significant point raised in the appeal is the unique advantage offered by Abu Dhabi Airport regarding travel to the United States. The airport features a US immigration pre-clearance facility, which allows passengers to complete immigration formalities before boarding, saving considerable time upon arrival in the US. The current direct flight enables people from Odisha to access this rare facility efficiently.

Impact on the Odia Diaspora

The letter noted that the United Arab Emirates is home to over 10,000 Odias. This community relies heavily on the direct flight for various needs, including family visits, medical emergencies, cultural engagements, and professional commutes.

Boosting Bilateral Ties

POSA also underscored the flight's role in strengthening the relationship between the UAE and Odisha. The direct connection has been instrumental in supporting tourism, facilitating business trade, and encouraging cultural exchange.

In their closing statement, the Prabasi Odia Samaj Abu Dhabi urged the state government to intervene immediately to ensure the service continues for the broader benefit of the travelling public.
