Puri, Oct 21: A man and a woman died of electrocution after coming in contact with a live wire during the Kali Puja celebrations at a temple in Biragovindpur village under Satyabadi block of Odisha’s Puri district late Monday night.

The identities of the deceased persons are yet to be ascertained.

According to eyewitnesses, the victims might have come into contact with an exposed electric wire due to negligence, leading to severe electric shock injuries.

Fire personnel from the Sakhigopal Fire Station, along with devotees present at the site, rushed them to a temporary health camp set up in the village for the festival. After preliminary treatment, they were shifted to the Sakhigopal Community Health Centre (CHC) as their health condition deteriorated. Unfortunately, the doctors at the facility declared both of them dead on arrival.

Upon getting the information, Satyabadi Police arrived at the scene, seized the bodies, and sent them for postmortem examination.

A forensic team has collected fingerprints, DNA samples, and photographs of the deceased for identification purposes, as their identities remain unknown.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
