Kolkata, May 30: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a summons to renowned Bengali film actress Rituparna Sengupta for interrogation regarding her alleged involvement in the multi-crore ration distribution scam in West Bengal.
Sources revealed that Sengupta has been instructed to appear at the ED's office located at the central government office (CGO) complex in Salt Lake, on the northern outskirts of Kolkata, on June 5. This summons comes just a day after the announcement of results for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
While details connecting the actress to the ration distribution case remain undisclosed, both officials and Sengupta have refrained from commenting on the matter.
This is not the first instance of Sengupta being summoned by the ED. In 2019, she was questioned by central agency officials regarding her involvement in the multi-crore Rose Valley chit fund scam in West Bengal. Sengupta's association with some of the entertainment ventures of Rose Valley Group, as well as her acting in movies produced by the group, prompted the interrogation.
Reports suggested that funds laundered by the Rose Valley Group through various multi-level marketing schemes, promising lucrative returns to investors, were utilized in the production of these films.
In the same year, the ED also summoned popular Bengali film actor Prosenjit Chatterjee in connection with the same case.
