Bhubaneswar, July 06: With rising incidents of risky social media trends, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) is ramping up its campaign against the unlawful and life-threatening practice of making videos or performing stunts on railway tracks.
In a recent incident reported on July 5, ECoR received an audio-video clip from a reliable source showing a young male lying on the concrete sleepers of a railway track as a train passed over. The Railway Protection Force (RPF), under the supervision of the Inspector of RPF (IPF) at Balangir, responded immediately. The team rushed to Purnapani Station and notified the local Baunsuni Police Station.
A joint investigation involving RPF, local police, and villagers led to the identification of the individuals involved. It was discovered that on June 29, 2025, a 12-year-old boy from a village under Baunsuni police station in Boudh district, Odisha, had gone to the railway tracks with his 15-year-old friend. The younger boy performed the life-threatening stunt while the older friend filmed it.
The RPF team, along with local villagers and the children’s parents, visited the location between Purnapani and Jharmunda Railway Stations. After completing formalities, both children and their guardians were taken to the RPF Post at Balangir for further legal action.
Case No. C3C/439 has been registered against both minors under Sections 153, 145(b), and 147 of the Railways Act, 1989. Legal proceedings are being pursued under the Juvenile Justice Act, with the children remaining under parental supervision.
ECoR once again urges the public to understand the serious dangers involved in such stunts. Railway tracks are not meant for social media content or thrill-seeking activities. Trespassing for such purposes not only endangers lives but also disrupts vital railway operations.
