Dy CM Pravati Parida voices concern over Gopalpur beach sexual assault case, Urges swift action

Bhubaneswar, June 17: Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida has expressed deep concern over the recent incident of sexual assault involving a college student at Gopalpur beach. The crime, which took place on Sunday, has sparked widespread outrage across the state.

According to police reports, ten individuals have been arrested in connection with the case. The victim, a college student pursuing her +3 degree in Berhampur, was reportedly visiting the beach with her boyfriend when the assault occurred. She is originally from a different district and not a resident of Berhampur.

Deputy CM Parida confirmed that she has spoken with the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Ganjam District and instructed a thorough investigation into the incident. She emphasized the need for swift action and preventive measures to ensure such acts are not repeated in the future.

Taking to social media platform X, Parida stated: "I am deeply saddened by the incident of gang rape of a young woman at Gopalpur beach. So far, 10 people have been arrested. I have spoken to the SP regarding this incident and have ordered a thorough investigation and necessary steps to ensure that such incidents do not recur in future."

The incident has sent shockwaves throughout Odisha, prompting calls for stronger safety measures, particularly in public spaces frequented by youth and tourists.
