Durga Puja 2026: Cuttack Road to showcase Malaysia Adiyogi Temple-themed arch

Bhubaneswar, Oct 7: Preparations for Sharadiya Durga Puja are in full swing across Bhubaneswar, with puja committees’ busy giving shape to elaborate arches, idols and decorations. Among them, the Cuttack Road Traders’ Association is planning a new attraction this year by recreating the Adiyogi Temple in Malaysia as its puja arch.

The grand arch, which will be around 80 feet high and 120 feet wide, is expected to be the main attraction of the celebrations.

46th Year of Durga Puja

The Cuttack Road Traders’ Association, comprising businessmen from Hindu, Muslim and Sikh communities, will celebrate its 46th Durga Puja this year.

The association has decided to make the celebrations more elaborate with a temple-themed arch, a grand idol and a range of cultural programmes.

16-Foot Idol and Silver Ornaments

The height of Maa Durga along with the medha has been fixed at 16 feet this year.

Maa Durga and the accompanying deities will be adorned with more than one quintal of silver ornaments, adding to the grandeur of the puja.

The total puja budget has been estimated at ₹50 lakh, said association treasurer Krushna Chandra Badajena.

Grand Lighting and Traditional Rituals

The puja celebrations will formally begin with Bel Barani and a Kalash procession on Sasthi.

Following the rituals, the puja venue will be illuminated with decorative lights, while the Cuttack Road area is expected to reverberate with Vedic chants and devotional rituals.

From Saptami, Ashtami and Navami, Anna Bhog will be offered to the Goddess. On Dashami, Charu Anna along with Dahi Pakhala will be offered as part of the traditional rituals.

Devotees will also be served Anna Prasad on Ashtami.

Odissi, Felicitation and Melody Programmes

The celebrations will include a series of cultural programmes.

On Saptami evening, an Odissi dance talent presentation and felicitation programme will be organised.

Melody programmes will be held on Navami and Dashami for devotees and visitors.

Traffic and Security Arrangements

With a large crowd expected during the festival, arrangements have also been made for crowd and traffic management.

Around 100 members will assist the Commissionerate Police in managing crowds and traffic around the puja venue.

As many as 20 CCTV cameras will be installed at the puja pandal and surrounding areas for security and surveillance.

Traditional Immersion Procession

The festivities will conclude with a grand immersion procession, featuring traditional musical instruments, artists and Odissi dancers.

The combination of the Malaysia Adiyogi Temple-themed arch, silver decorations, cultural programmes and traditional rituals is expected to make the 46th Cuttack Road Durga Puja a major attraction in Bhubaneswar this year.
