
Bhubaneswar, Sept 9: Chakeisiani, an area renowned for its rich cultural heritage, is preparing for its grand Durga Puja celebrations this year with a series of exciting events and religious rituals. The festivities will be marked by an impressive 55-foot Rajbati arch, symbolizing the triumph of righteousness over evil. The local community has planned a spectacular light decoration spanning over 5 kilometers from the Chakeisiani Durga Puja Mandap to the High School Chowk.
The idol of Maa Durga will stand 12 feet tall and will be accompanied by a 15-foot decorative arch, where the Goddess and her accompanying deities will be adorned in exquisite silver ornaments. This year marks the silver jubilee of Chakeisiani Durga Puja Samiti, which is set to host various religious events, including the distribution of essential information on nighttime safety and warnings against the consumption of intoxicants. The authorities have also raised awareness about avoiding plastic use.
With a budget of ₹28 lakh, this year's festivities will include traditional dance performances and melodious programs, and on Mahashtami, over 3,000 devotees will be served with traditional food. On Navami, 5,000 people will enjoy a special meal of Khichdi and Dalma. On the final day of Dussehra, the community will offer a traditional meal of Dahi Pakhala near the idol of Maa Durga.
Additionally, the celebrations will feature traditional music played by instruments like the Singha Baja and Punjab Baja, along with special arrangements for differently-abled and elderly devotees, ensuring their access and comfort. The safety and convenience of women will also be a priority, with women volunteers assigned for assistance. A total of 60 volunteers will be deployed for security, and 11 CCTV cameras will be installed around the venue to ensure a safe and smooth experience for all.
This year’s Durga Puja at Chakeisiani promises to be a harmonious blend of faith, culture, and community spirit.
