Mumbai, Aug 27: Down with illness, speedsters Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik have been withdrawn from the opening round squads of the Duleep Trophy 2024 to be held in September, informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday.
They have been replaced with pacers Navdeep Saini and Gaurav Yadav. While Saini plays Ranji Trophy for Haryana, Gaurav represents Puducherry. He also played for Madhya Pradesh earlier.
Team India's star left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has also been released from the Duleep Trophy. Jadeja last played for India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final, which India won beating South Africa in the summit clash.
Along with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Jadeja too announced his retirement from the T20I format. Though he plays ODIs and Test cricket, but he was not part of the Indian squad during their recent three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.
As far as Duleep Trophy is concerned, the previous zonal-level format has been replaced with four teams, namely India A, India B, India C and India D. The tournament will be played in the new format for the first time from this year.
