Bhubaneswar, Feb 6: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday expressed deep sorrow over the drowning of two minor boys in Kuakhai River on outskirts of Bhubaneswar and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to each family.
“Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep grief over the loss of lives of two students while immersing Saraswati idols in a pond near Ranga Bazaar under Balianta block on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. The state government has announced a compensation of ₹4 lakh from the State Disaster Relief Fund for the families of the deceased,” said the Chief Minister's Office on ‘X’.

It is worth mentioning that two minor boys, identified as Divya Jyoti Mahalik (15) and Sikun Sahabi (15), drowned while immersing the idol of Goddess Saraswati in the Kuakhai River near Rangbazar under Balianta police limits on outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
They slipped into the deep water and drowned. Soon after, other students alerted their parents and the Balianta police.
