Cuttack, June 23: In a tragic road accident, a car driver was killed and three others sustained injuries after a head-on collision between a car and a Hyva truck on Subhash Setu in Cuttack during the early hours of Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Ajit Sahu of Chandrabeli village under Samal Barrage police station limits in Angul district. The injured include his relatives who were travelling with him.
According to reports, the accident occurred at around 3 a.m. when Ajit Sahu was driving his uncle, aunt and nephew to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for treatment. As the vehicle reached the middle of Subhash Setu, it collided with a Hyva truck coming from the opposite direction.
The impact of the crash left the car severely damaged, trapping the driver inside. Fire Services personnel and Baranga Police rushed to the spot and rescued him by cutting open the vehicle's door. However, he succumbed to his injuries.
The truck driver reportedly fled the scene soon after the accident. Police removed the damaged vehicles from the bridge and have launched an investigation into the incident.
The three injured passengers and the body of the deceased were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment and further procedures.
