Bhubaneswar, January 7: The first phase of Census will be launched in Odisha in April this year while the second phase will take place in February 2027, said Census Director Nikhil Pavan Kalyan on Wednesday.

Census of India 2027 is being conducted under the administrative control of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, Ministry of Home Affairs, in coordination with the State Government.

“The first phase of the census will begin in Odisha from April. The second phase of the census will take place in February 2027. In the first phase, house listing and enumeration of household assets will be conducted. In the second phase, door-to-door survey and population enumeration will be done,” said Kalyan after attending a meeting chaired by the Development Commissioner yesterday.

“Preparations for the census activities in the State have already started for the last six months. Pre-tests have been completed in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. The boundaries of newly declared NACs and Municipalities have also been finalised. Over the next three months, officials will be given training,” said the Census Director.

“One census official will be appointed for every 200 households while one supervisor will be appointed for every six officials. Around one lakh census officials will be appointed to carry out the process. Each census official will be given a financial incentive of Rs 25,000 for the purpose,” said Kalyan.

Kalyan said, “In the first phase, from April to May, houses will be marked. From February 2027, enumeration drive will be carried out in the second phase.”

The Census Director said that people can register themselves by visiting the website.

“The self-registration process will be OTP-based. One mobile number cannot be used twice, and screenshots from the app will not be allowed. About 90 percent of the process will be conducted online. The entire process will be monitored at the highest level to ensure 100% accuracy,” said Kalyan.
