Koraput, Dec 17: In a tragic incident, a Class III student was killed in Koraput on Wednesday after the school noticeboard fell on him.
Two kids also sustained critical injuries in the incident, sources said.
The mishap took place at Government Upgraded Residential School, Kotpad in Odisha’s Koraput district.
The deceased has been identified as Premanand Bhatra, a resident of Sauniguda village, who was a boarder of the hostel.
According to reports, the students were performing their routine works this morning. Meanwhile, the school noticeboard collapsed all of a sudden and fell on some students. As a result, several boys sustained severe injuries where Premananda succumbed to head injuries on the spot.
The injured ones were rushed to the Kotpad Community Health Centre for treatment. Later, one of them was shifted to DHH Koraput for high-end care as his condition deteriorated.
The Kotpad Police seized the body and initiated an investigation while the school authorities and distric admin took stock of the incident visiting the spot.
