Mumbai, Dec 7: India cricketer Smriti Mandhana on Sunday confirmed that her wedding to music composer Palash Muchhal has been called off, putting an end to weeks of speculation.

Mandhana issued a public statement on Instagram, explaining that she felt compelled to address persistent rumours following last month’s abrupt postponement of the ceremony.

“Over the past few weeks there has been plenty of speculation around my life, and I feel it is important for me to speak out at this time. I am a very private person and I would like to keep it that way, but I need to clarify that the wedding is called off,” her statement read.

Reaffirming her dedication to cricket, the India women’s team vice-captain said her national duties remain her foremost priority. “I believe there is a higher purpose driving us all, and for me that has always been representing my country at the highest level. I hope to continue to play and win trophies for India for as long as possible, and that is where my focus will forever be.”

Mandhana concluded by urging the public to respect the privacy of both families during this difficult period. “I would like to close this matter here and implore all of you to do the same. Please respect the privacy of both families and allow us the space to process and move on at our own pace.”

The wedding — following a five-year relationship and viral pre-wedding celebrations — had been scheduled for November 23, 2025. It was initially postponed after Mandhana’s father, Srinivas Mandhana, suffered a sudden medical emergency, followed by reports of stress-related health concerns for groom-to-be Palash Muchhal.

Although relatives on both sides had initially assured that the ceremony would go ahead at a later date, the deletion of wedding-related posts from Mandhana’s social media and her appearance without her engagement ring fuelled speculation of a deeper rift.
