'Doing More, Doing Differently': Jaishankar's Mantra for India-Russia Cooperation

India-Russia Ties are World's 'Steadiest,' Says Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, during a visit to Moscow, has described the relationship between India and Russia as the "steadiest of the major relationships in the world after the Second World War." His remarks came during a joint press briefing with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, reinforcing the deep and enduring nature of the "special strategic partnership" between the two nations.

Reviewing a Privileged Partnership

Jaishankar's meeting with Lavrov was an opportunity to review the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation, including trade, investment, defence, and technology. He noted that recent high-level engagements have provided clear guidance to take the partnership forward, and that preparations are now underway for the next annual summit between the two countries' leaders. The visit is part of an active calendar of exchanges, highlighting the depth of the relationship.

Navigating a Changing World

The talks took place against the backdrop of a shifting global order and heightened trade tensions with the United States. Both ministers acknowledged the increasing importance of multipolar platforms like BRICS and the SCO. In this context, Jaishankar emphasized the need for India and Russia to adapt and find new ways to work together.

A day earlier, he had urged Russian companies to engage more "intensively" with their Indian counterparts, stating that "Doing more and doing differently should be our mantras." This call for diversified and expanded cooperation is particularly significant as India navigates the economic challenges posed by the US tariff offensive.
