Bhubaneswar, Aug 28: Doctors in the capital city of Odisha are reporting fevers due to flu, typhoid, and mosquito-borne dengue which are on the rise.
Over 700 typhoid tests have been conducted here at Capital Hospital in the last few days.
After filling up of beds in wards, the hospital corridors are filled with patients with complaints of fever.
Around 250 patients have been admitted in both male and female wards suffering from typhoid and over 60 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Now dengue is in plateau stage. As the testing capacity has increased double-fold this year, more patients are being detected. Last year testing positive rate was 9 percent. This year it is only 6 percent and only 5 percent of patients are critical. However, people are taking admission unnecessarily with mild cases, said public health director Dr Niranjan Mishra.
Though Capital Hospital authorities have added more beds in the designated dengue wards with a special counter for the collection of samples, over 400 suspected patients are queuing up at the counter every day, according to the hospital administration.
For better facilities, the testing time has been increased by two hours. Earlier, it was from 9 am to 4 pm. From Sunday the special counter is opening from 8 am to 5 pm.
