Jajpur, June 23: In a tragic incident, a doctor at Jajpur Medical College and Hospital died after suddenly falling ill while treating a patient in the operation theatre on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Dr. Rajesh Sahu (38), an anesthesiologist at the medical college. According to reports, Dr. Sahu had arrived from Bhubaneswar and was attending patients as part of his routine duty. While treating a patient in the OT, he reportedly felt unwell and left for his chamber.

As his condition worsened, hospital authorities shifted him in an ambulance to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced treatment. However, doctors at SCB declared him dead on arrival.

The sudden demise of the young doctor has sent shockwaves across the medical fraternity and left colleagues and hospital staff stunned.

Dr. Sahu was the eldest son of Bhaskar Sahu of Jamudiha village under Jamudiha Panchayat in Nilgiri block of Balasore district. His mortal remains were later taken to his native village, where the last rites were performed amid a pall of gloom.

He is survived by his wife and a seven-year-old daughter. The untimely death of the dedicated doctor has plunged his family, friends and well-wishers into deep mourning.
