Bhubaneswar, Nov 11: Traffic came to a standstill at many places in Bhubaneswar city on Friday and Saturday evening as denizens rushed for shopping on the occasion of Diwali and Dhanteras.
The Jayadev Vihar-Patia road usually takes 15 minutes to cover the stretch but on Friday, commuters were stuck for over an hour.
At many places in the city – Janpath, Jayadev Vihar, Kalinga Studio Square and Behera Sahi Square - the traffic was moving at a snail's pace taking around 15 to 20 minutes to cover a distance of 200 metres.
As the weather was dry with cool breeze blowing for most part of the day, people got out of their homes for Diwali shopping on Saturday afternoon.
Traffic police personnel found it very hard to manage vehicles at Master Canteen Square. Vehicles got stuck for long time on both sides till Rajmahal Square. The situation was very similar in Laxmisagar, Bomikhal and Rasulgarh.
