Ferrari’s Electric Revolution Gets an Apple Touch
Minimalist cabin features recycled aluminum and innovative OLED technology
Ferrari has finally pulled the covers off the interior of its highly anticipated first electric vehicle, and the design carries a familiar touch of genius. Named the Ferrari Luce electric car—with "Luce" translating to 'light' in Italian—the vehicle features a cabin crafted by none other than Sir Jony Ive. As the former chief designer at Apple, Ive is the mind behind the iPhone and iMac, and his influence is unmistakable in this new Italian masterpiece.
While the world waits until May 2026 to see the exterior, Ferrari has shared a detailed look at where the driver sits. The project is a collaboration between Ferrari and LoveFrom, the creative collective founded by Ive and Marc Newson. This partnership, which has been quietly operating for five years, aims to blend Ferrari’s racing DNA with a fresh, clean aesthetic.
Retro Inspiration Meets Modern Tech
Stepping inside the Luce feels like a journey through time. The steering wheel pays homage to Ferraris from the 1950s and 1960s with a classic three-spoke layout. However, the materials are strictly modern, utilizing lightweight recycled aluminum. Unlike many modern EVs that rely solely on touchscreens, Ive has retained tactile satisfaction. The cabin features physical buttons for essential functions like wipers and indicators, alongside the brand's signature red Manettino switch.
Technological innovation remains front and center. The dashboard houses a 12.5-inch instrument cluster. At first glance, it looks like three traditional analog dials, but it is actually a sophisticated OLED screen built with eight layers to create depth. Additionally, a movable 10-inch touchscreen, reminiscent of an iPad, sits on a palm rest platform for media and temperature control.
Unique Features and Launch Details
Attention to detail defines the center console, which floats elegantly using leather and glass. A standout feature involves the ignition process; inserting the key causes it to change color from yellow to black, visually signaling that the car is powered up. For a touch of drama, the launch control is activated via a helicopter-style grip mounted above the driver’s head.
With rear-view screens providing telemetry and lap times, the Ferrari Luce electric car promises to be a driver-focused machine. As automotive enthusiasts in India and abroad await the full reveal, this interior preview confirms that Ferrari’s electric future will be nothing short of luxurious.
