Balangir, Jan 30: Balangir police have arrested a notorious father–son robbery gang that had been involved in thefts, robberies, and dacoities across the district for several years. The accused were caught after a two-year-long investigation, officials said on Wednesday.

The arrested persons have been identified as Ramesh alias Gajapati Suna, his elder son Sameer alias Ravi Suna, and younger son Arjun alias Shubham Suna. Following their arrest, police conducted a crime scene reconstruction at multiple robbery locations as well as at the accused persons’ residence.

According to police sources, the trio was involved in a total of 11 robbery and theft cases—seven under Balangir Town Police Station limits, three under Puintala Police Station, and one under Lakshmijor Police Station.

One of the major incidents took place in February 2024 at Gandhinagar Pada, where the accused allegedly broke into the house of Shubhashree Padhi while she was away for work. The gang reportedly looted gold jewellery, household articles, clothes, and cash, with the total value of stolen property estimated to exceed ₹1 crore.

Police said that CCTV footage and advanced fingerprint analysis played a crucial role in tracing and arresting the accused. Officials added that cases against the gang have also been registered in other districts. The investigation was hampered as the accused did not have a permanent place of residence, which delayed their arrest.

Further investigation is underway.
