Bhubaneswar, Feb 17: As Odisha prepares to celebrate 100 years of statehood in 2036, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Tuesday outlined an ambitious roadmap to sharply raise the per capita income of the state’s citizens under a long-term Vision Document.

Addressing the Odisha Legislative Assembly, the Governor said the government aims to increase per capita income from the current ₹1.8 lakh to ₹32 lakh by 2047. The target forms a key pillar of the state’s broader economic transformation plan linked to India’s centenary of Independence.

The Vision Document charts Odisha’s development path for 2036 and 2047. The state plans to become a US$ 500 billion economy by 2036 and expand further to US$ 1.5 trillion by 2047.

“The Vision targets transformation of Odisha into a US$ 500 billion economy by 2036 and US$ 1.5 trillion by 2047, increasing the State's contribution to National GDP from 3% to 5%, with average annual growth rising from 7% to 9.5% through reforms in investment, execution, and technology adoption,” said the Governor.

The Governor said rising per capita income would reflect improved productivity across agriculture, industry and services. The government plans to modernise farming, promote value addition, expand manufacturing and strengthen infrastructure to create more employment opportunities.

He added that increased participation of women in the workforce, targeted at 70 percent, will play a major role in raising household incomes. Investments in education, healthcare and skill development are also expected to boost earning capacity and improve living standards.

Major infrastructure projects, including the Rameshwar–Paradip Coastal Highway, are expected to enhance connectivity and stimulate trade and industrial activity, contributing to income growth across regions.

The government has also set goals to reduce multidimensional poverty to 5 percent, eliminate anaemia and malnutrition, and raise life expectancy beyond 80 years, aligning social progress with economic growth.

The Governor said the focus on per capita income ensures that economic expansion translates into real benefits for people.

“When Odisha completes 100 years in 2036, it must stand tall with pride and prosperity,” he said, adding that the state aims to emerge as a strong growth engine for a developed India by 2047.
