Jajpur, June 13: A diarrhoea outbreak in Odisha’s Jajpur district has claimed five lives so far, while 620 people have been affected, according to health officials. Among them, 112 patients are currently undergoing treatment at the Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital.
Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Dr Prakash Bal informed that the condition of three patients is reported to be critical. Additionally, five severely ill patients have been shifted to Cuttack for specialised treatment.
To assess the situation, a team from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is expected to visit today for an on-ground study. Meanwhile, food safety officials are actively inspecting various food samples to identify the source of the contamination.
Dr Bal added that the administration is hopeful about the situation will come under control within the next three to four days.
