Cuttack, Oct 16: In a compassionate initiative to bring joy, learning, and comfort to young patients, a Paediatric Library has been set up at 1st floor of the old building of the Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer (AHPGIC), Cuttack.

The library, dedicated to children undergoing treatment at AHPGIC provides them with friendly, vibrant, and nurturing space to learn and relax amidst their treatment schedule.

The facility is equipped with a wide collection of children’s storybooks, picture books, comics, drawing and colouring materials, educational games, and digital learning tools, creating a cheerful environment within the hospital premises.

The initiative seeks to promote holistic paediatric care. While focusing on the clinical care, the innovative set up also takes care of their mental and emotional well-being. Through creativity learning, the library offers a welcome distraction from the monotony of hospital routines and fosters positive confidence among young patients.

The library operates during hospital visiting hours. Trained Counsellors and staff assist children in reading, storytelling, and interactive sessions.

This thoughtful initiative reinforces AHPGIC’s dedication to comprehensive cancer care, integrating compassion, education, and emotional support into its service delivery, especially for the youngest patients.

Currently, it has seating arrangements for 10 children with their parents. The facility has been developed in collaboration with the civil society bodies.
