Dhenkanal, Sept 10: Following a probe into the alleged sexual assault of a 22-year-old homeless woman, medical samples and DNA tests have been collected from the four arrested suspects. The individuals, identified as Babuli Nayak, Biranchi Moharana, Abinash Parida, and Jiban Parida from Mahulapunji village, have been denied bail and are now in judicial custody.
According to the report, one of the seven initial suspects has died in the past few months, and two others remain at large. The Dhenkanal Police arrested these four men for the repeated gang-rape of the homeless woman under the Bhapur police limits in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district. The woman, who is now seven months pregnant, had been staying with her ailing father in an abandoned Anganwadi center. Her father, suffering from severe mental health issues, was unable to protect her from the assaults.
In response to the gravity of the situation, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida has instructed the Dhenkanal Superintendent of Police to conduct a thorough investigation.
