Bhubaneswar, Feb 28:While the recent notification on Rajya Sabha elections has warmed up the Odisha political ecosystem, the Biju Janata Dal(BJD) has announced two nominees for the coveted race.

A party icon, Santrupt Mishra and an ace physician, quite away from politics Dr. Datteswar Hota has been fielded as the nominees for the Upper House.

BJD Supremo Naveen Patnaik focused Santrupt as a befitting representative for the Rajya Sabha, maybe for his leadership aptitude as a global corporate Human Resources mobilizer. Mishra was righteously inducted to the BJD as he himself humbled to join the BJD out of his own accord, leaving high-salaried profile behind.

While, Dr. Hota was a common man who elevated himself to a common altitude, for his service to mankind, as missionary physician, less affiliated with politics or political affairs in any way. In turn, Dr. Hota was acknowledged as an Odia icon in Odisha’s Public Health scenario, tendering selfless service to the humanity as one of the best Renal Surgion and Practising Urologist.

Dr. Datteswar Hota as a specialist in Urology with a rich experience of over 40 years, worked in Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar. Later, he worked as an expert Urologist at different cities of India.

Doctor Datteswar Hota has contributed to handling numerous complex medical cases in several hospitals. He is known for his attention to accurate diagnosis and for treating patients empathetically.

The special interests and expertize subjects of Dr Datteswar are Endo urology, Stone diseases, Prostate disease, Stricture diseases of urethra, and Uro oncology.

Dr. Hota acquired his MBBS Degree and post graduation with MS in General Surgery from the SCB Medical College, Cuttack in 1983 and 1986 respectively. He also completed his MCh in Urology from PGIMER, Chandigarh in 1994. He has also participated in research work and various workshops under the Urology department and published many papers.

During his tenure in Odisha as an ace surgeon Dr. Datteswar Hota specialized in the field of Renal Transplant,Open Prostatectomy,Urethral Stricture Repair,Laser Prostatectomy,PCNL, Kidney Stones Treatment,Diagnostic Cystoscopy and URSL interventions.

Dr. Datteswar Hota later on became a prominent Indian urologist and academician as a proud Odia, to represent scores of national and international symposiums.

Dr. Hota has a career spanning over four decades, primarily serving in Odisha. He has held high-ranking positions including Head of the Department of Urology and Dean & Principal in charge of SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack.

In 2023, Dr Hota was appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of the Odisha University of Health Sciences in Bhubaneswar.

Dr. Hota was recognized for his contributions to modernizing urology services in Odisha, including introducing advanced laparoscopy and renal transplant facilities across the Odisha health services
