Angul, Oct 26: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has urged for early functioning of Talcher medical college in Angul district.
The union minister said this while attending Ravan Podi programmes in Angul and Dhenkanal districts on Tuesday.
"The Centre has arranged Rs 1,500 crore for the medical college. However, it is yet to function. This has surprised many," he said.
The Odisha government has named the medical college and hospital after freedom fighter Pabitra Mohan Pradhan and had assured to start the institution on October 1. But the college could not function till date, he added.
Pradhan urged the Odisha government to start the medical college and hospital soon.
He also stated that the district mineral foundation (DMF) is receiving crores of rupees for development works, but the funds are being misutilised. This fund should be used for the basic amenities of the local people.
