Bhubaneswar, Feb 19: The Odisha Economic Survey 2025–26 report has highlighted significant strides made by the state in strengthening its transport infrastructure, particularly in rail and aviation connectivity.

Rail connectivity in Odisha has improved significantly in recent years. Odisha added approximately 200 km to its rail network in 2024-25, taking the total rail network length to 3,243 km in 2024-25. Track addition work progressed at a higher daily rate this year than in earlier periods.

Railway passengers from Odisha recorded significant growth since COVID. Railway passenger from the State has increased by CAGR of 39.5 per cent between 2021-22 and 2024-25 to reach 935 lakh in 2024-25, read the report.

According to the report, aviation sector in Odisha has expanded significantly in recent years with establishment of new airports, air routes, and increased investment. The State has five operational airports (one international and four domestic). The number of Indian cities connected through direct flights has increased to 30 in 2024-25 from 18 in 2021-22.

In 2024-25, the number of flights operating from the state increased by more than 1,200 flights, indicating growth in air travel demand.

Passenger traffic has also increased by impressive 31 per cent CAGR between 2021-22 and 2024-25. Currently, In 2025, the state government launched Building and Management of Aviation Assets and Network (B-MAAN) with provision of ₹4,182 crore for a period of five years (2025-30) to further improve aviation ecosystem in the State.
