Nayagarh, Jan 25: Forest officials on Thursday recovered a detusked elephant carcass from Nayagarh forest in Odisha.
Three poachers were detained in this connection after recovery of the tusks from their possession. The accused had allegedly electrocuted the elephant for getting their tusk extracted for trade.
Sources said,the Range official recovered a decomposed elephant carcass from near the Biluapada Gorge forest under the Dasapalla Forest Range. Primary investigation revealed that the tusker was killed after electrocution and it was detusked by the poachers.
Following this, an operation was launched to nab the culprits involved in the crime.
Sharing the information on social media X handle, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Susanta Nanda thanked the Nayagarh forest officials for their successful operation.
“Team Nayagarh did some scientific and proper investigation without rest for the last 48 hrs leading to the accused being caught. My sincere thanks,” Nanda wrote.
