Delhi's Sarai Kale Khan ISBT Chowk renamed in Honour of Tribal Freedom Fighter “Birsa Munda”

New Delhi: In a tribute to the legacy of Birsa Munda, a revered tribal freedom fighter, the prominent intersection outside the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Delhi's Sarai Kale Khan has been officially renamed " Birsa Munda Chowk." The announcement was made by Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, during a ceremony commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of the iconic leader.

The event, organized to celebrate Birsa Munda's contributions to India's struggle for independence and his unwavering fight for tribal rights, saw the unveiling of a statue in his honor. Minister Khattar emphasized the significance of recognizing Birsa Munda's role in shaping the nation's history and inspiring generations to come. " Birsa Munda is a legendary figure for the tribal community of this country," stated Khattar. "Renaming this significant landmark after him ensures that his memory lives on, inspiring not only the residents of Delhi but also visitors from across the nation."

The decision to rename the Sarai Kale Khan ISBT Chowk, a bustling transportation hub connecting Delhi to various states, is seen as a symbolic gesture to acknowledge the contributions of tribal communities to India's rich heritage.
