The fifth edition of“Sudarshan Shakti-V” was conducted from10 a.m. on August 7 to 4 a.m. on August 8 under the aegis of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Delhi Police said.
The exercise was designed to test the coordination, response capabilities and operational readiness of various security and emergency-response agencies in dealing with multiple terror-related situations simultaneously.
As part of the drill, several simulated terror scenarios were created at prominent and sensitive locations across Delhi. These included simultaneous explosions, indiscriminate firing, hostage situations, an aircraft hijacking and attacks involving chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) threats.
The mock scenarios were conducted at key public and transport hubs, including ISBT Kashmiri Gate, Connaught Place, Nehru Place, Indira Gandhi International Airport, Red Fort Metro Station and Kalkaji Mandir.
The exercise provided security agencies with an opportunity to assess their preparedness for complex and coordinated threats, particularly at locations that witness large public gatherings and high footfall.
The participation of multiple agencies was aimed at ensuring seamless coordination during a potential emergency, including rapid deployment of specialised teams, securing affected areas, managing civilians and responding to different types of threats.
The exercise assumes added significance ahead ofIndependence Day celebrations on August 15, when security arrangements are stepped up across the national capital, particularly around major public places, transport facilities and other sensitive installations.
The Delhi Police said such joint exercises are conducted to identify operational gaps, improve inter-agency coordination and ensure that security personnel are prepared to respond swiftly and effectively to any possible threat.
