Delhi Police Denies Plans to Crack Down on Jantar Mantar Protest

New Delhi, July 23: Delhi Police on Thursday dismissed claims of a possible crackdown on protesters at Jantar Mantar, rejecting allegations made by former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

In a post on X, Delhi Police said there was no plan to take action against the ongoing protest and urged Kejriwal not to spread "misleading or unverified information."

Earlier, Kejriwal had claimed on X that shops in Connaught Place (CP) had been ordered to close by 6:30 pm and that heavy security, along with ambulances, had been deployed, raising concerns over possible action against protesters.

Meanwhile, the New Delhi Traders Association (NDTA) advised all offices, shops and restaurants in Connaught Place to shut by 6:30 pm. The association said the decision was taken following telephonic advice from the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) in view of the prevailing situation in the area.
