New Delhi, March 8: The Delhi government has officially approved the 'Mahila Samridhi Yojana', a scheme aimed at providing ₹2,500 per month to eligible women. The approval comes amid rising pressure from the Atishi-led Opposition in the national capital.
Fulfilling a key BJP election promise, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta gave the green light to the scheme on Saturday, allocating a budget of ₹5,100 crore for the current financial year. The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by CM Gupta and later announced by BJP National President J.P. Nadda at an event marking International Women’s Day at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Addressing the gathering, Nadda emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for women-led development, highlighting CM Gupta’s initiatives to enhance women's safety in Delhi. These include:
Eligibility & Registration
While the eligibility criteria are yet to be finalized, the scheme is expected to benefit 15-20 lakh women aged 18-60 from families earning up to ₹3 lakh annually, with a special focus on Below-Poverty-Line (BPL) households.
As per the draft guidelines:
Applicants must have been Delhi residents for at least five years.
They must have an Aadhaar-linked bank account.
Women already receiving financial aid under other government schemes (such as widow pensions) will not be eligible.
To ensure transparency, online registrations will undergo multi-level verification, similar to the Union government’s Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, to prevent fraudulent claims.
