Kia introduces its first hybrid AWD SUV starting today
Korean automaker Kia has officially launched the Sorento in India with a starting price of Rs 27.99 lakh. This vehicle marks the brand's first entry into the hybrid all-wheel-drive segment in the country. Production takes place locally at the Anantapur manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh, securing competitive pricing for buyers. India’s rapidly growing appetite for premium three-row vehicles makes this launch particularly timely for the local automotive sector. Buyers can configure the cabin with either six or seven seats.
Strong Hybrid And Diesel Choices
Customers get two highly capable engines. The flagship powertrain features a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong-hybrid system. It generates 180bhp and 265Nm of torque through the combustion engine, while the electric motor contributes an extra 65bhp and 264Nm. This setup pairs with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Alternatively, buyers can select a 2.2-litre diesel engine delivering 193bhp and 442Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic. Both engines offer front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. Drivers benefit from Normal, Eco, Sport, and Smart driving modes, plus Snow, Sand, and Mud settings for off-road conditions.
Designers applied a prominent Tiger-nose grille with honeycomb details and chrome surrounds to the front fascia. Vertically stacked LED headlamps feature striking Y-shaped daytime running lights. The vehicle rides on 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and sports L-shaped LED tail-lamps at the rear. Silver-finished skid plates and dual exhaust outlets complete the aggressive stance.
Premium Cabin Features
Inside, customers choose between grey-and-black or beige-and-black themes. Two 12.3-inch screens dominate the dashboard for instruments and infotainment. Occupants can personalize their displays with nine unique Disney, Pixar, and Marvel character themes. Notably, this model debuts real-time generative AI functionality, a global first for the nameplate. Additional comforts include a 12-speaker Bose audio setup, a panoramic sunroof, and a head-up display. Front passengers get 10-way power seats with ventilation, while a dedicated boss mode maximizes legroom in the rear. Safety systems incorporate 10 airbags and Level 2+ ADAS technology. The package also features automated parking assistance, built-in front and rear dashcams, and a digital inside rearview mirror.
