New Delhi, January 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has on Wednesday launched his campaign for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, expressing confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would win the election. Addressing a public rally in the Ghonda assembly constituency, he boldly declared, "On February 5, AAP-da jayegi, BJP aayegi" (The Aam Aadmi Party will go, and the BJP will come).
PM Modi directly targeted the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), stating that the residents of Delhi are demanding a government that will provide relief from tanker mafias and deliver regular tap water to their homes. He remarked, “The people of Delhi are saying no to excuses, false promises, and the corruption of AAP. They want a government that works for the welfare and development of the poor, builds homes for them, and ensures modern infrastructure. The people of Delhi want a government that will provide tap water to every household and free them from the mafia that controls water supply."
He praised the Delhi BJP's manifesto, which promises various welfare schemes for women, youth, the middle class, auto drivers, shopkeepers, and slum dwellers. "I congratulate the Delhi BJP for presenting a comprehensive Sankalp Patra. The promises made by the party will be fulfilled within a specific timeframe once the BJP forms the government. This is Modi Ki Guarantee," the Prime Minister said.
PM Modi also criticized the AAP for failing to deliver on its promises, stating that despite India’s growing development, Delhi has not been able to reflect the progress expected from the nation’s capital. "Crores of people across the nation are working towards a developed Bharat, yet Delhi doesn’t look like a modern capital. Is this what you expect from a capital city?" he questioned, emphasizing that the people of Delhi are well aware of the city’s issues.
Referring to the past leaderships, PM Modi pointed out that both Congress and AAP had ruled Delhi for extended periods without bringing about significant change. "In the 21st century, Delhi has seen 14 years of Congress rule and 11 years of AAP rule, but the problems of Delhi remain unsolved. They have ruined the city," he said.
Appealing to Delhi voters, Modi urged them to give the BJP a chance, saying, “Ek baar Kamal ko bhi dekh lijiye” (Give the lotus a chance this time).
The BJP aims to reclaim power in Delhi after 27 years. In contrast, the AAP has dominated the last two elections, securing 67 seats in 2015 and 62 seats in 2020. The Congress, which ruled Delhi for 15 consecutive years, has struggled in recent elections and failed to secure any seats in the last two assembly polls.
The Delhi Assembly elections will be held in a single phase on February 5, with results expected to be announced on February 8. A total of 699 candidates are contesting for the 70 assembly seats in Delhi.
