Bhubaneswar, February 26: BJD MP Sasmit Patra has expressed strong support for the Supreme Court's suo motu action against the NCERT's Class 8 curriculum, which allegedly included a section on "corruption in the Indian judiciary.

" Patra called the content "unwarranted and deplorable," aligning with the views of Chief Justice Surya Kant. He urged for the withdrawal of the books and for accountability of those responsible.

Patra, also a member of the Supreme Court bar, emphasized that such material tarnishes the image of the judiciary. Earlier, the Supreme Court issued show-cause notices to NCERT and the Ministry of Education for the controversial section, warning of contempt of court if further violations occurred.

The Court banned the textbook chapter and ordered NCERT to submit detailed records of the committee responsible for approving it.

NCERT had previously apologized, acknowledging the error and promising to revise the chapter after consultation. The Supreme Court reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the judiciary's reputation.
