New Delhi, June 28: Early on Friday morning, in aa tragic incident at Delhi Airport, when heavy rains caused part of Terminal-1's roof to collapse onto vehicles, resulting in one fatality and six injuries.
In response to the incident, airport authorities temporarily halted departures from Terminal 1 until 2 pm. Check-in counters were also closed for safety reasons. The collapse occurred at approximately 5:30 am and caused extensive damage to several vehicles, including taxis. The Delhi Fire Services promptly launched a search operation to ensure no individuals were trapped in the wreckage.
The collapse involved the roof sheet and support beams, damaging cars in the pick-up and drop-off area of Indira Gandhi International Airport, one of the busiest in the world.
"Around 5:30 am, we received reports of a roof collapse at Terminal-1 of Delhi airport. Three fire engines were immediately dispatched to the scene," confirmed an official from Delhi Fire Services.
IndiGo Airlines subsequently cancelled all flights to and from Terminal 1 due to the partial closure caused by heavy rains.
