Bhubaneswar, Dec 30: Recently, senior Congress leader of Basta Assembly constituency of Balasore district, Deba Kumar Dey, joined the BJD along with his supporters. He is sarpanch of Srirampur Gram Panchayat of Baliapal Block.

Minister Pratap Keshari Deb, the party observer of Balasore district, and Rajya Sabha MP Manas Ranjan Mangaraj welcomed Deba Kumar to the party at the joining meeting held at Shankha Bhavan here.

After joining BJD, Dab Kumar said “I have been in the Congress for a long time. But I am now disgusted with the working style of the Congress for a few years for which I had to quit the party."

"On the contrary, I was overwhelmed by the policy of Odisha government. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's pro-people policy inspired me to join BJD “he said

In the second week of October, during the party’s Jana Samparka Padayatra, it was announced that the Working president of BJD woman wing Subashini Jena would contest from Basta Assembly constituency.

The party district president and Minister Aswini Patra had openly declared about it when the standing MLA Nityananda Sahoo was absent. The minister announced this in the presence of Balasore district observer and Minister Pratap Deb.

However, Patra's announcement had fuelled political rumours in the district.

Several aspirants in Basta are in the race for a BJD ticket. Deba Kumar Dey is now added to that list.
