Bhubaneswar, July 1: The death toll among Odia migrant workers in the ammonia gas leak at a private seafood processing and export facility in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district increased to 14 with one Anjali Anjana from Keonjhar district succumbing to her injuries, the State Labour Commissioner said on Wednesday.
Anjali Anjana Juanga, who had been under ventilator support died at Stanley Hospital succumbed to injuries on Tuesday evening.
“One more worker namely Anjali Anjana Juanga of village Kharaba, Harichandanpur Dist:- Kendujhar who was under ventilator support died at Stanley Hospital yesterday at 9. 10 pm. The death toll of Odia worker in Ammonia Gas Leakage Accident at Peter & Paul Seafood Exports Private Ltd., Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu is now 14,” the Labour Commisioner posted on ‘X’.
The State Government is taking measures to bring the mortal remains of the deceased to her native place.
“Steps are being taken to shift the mortal remains to her native place after medical formalities are completed,” wrote the Labour Commissioner.
According to officials, a total of 62 migrant workers from Odisha who survived the ammonia gas leak at a seafood processing factory in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district returned to the State on Saturday.
The industrial chemical accident occurred on June 21 during routine operations at an export facility located. A total of 83 individuals were affected after affected after inhaling the toxic gas, experiencing breathlessness, severe respiratory distress, coughing, and chest discomfort.
