Mumbai, May 9: Fans of the beloved Bollywood classic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, will have to wait a little longer to see their favorite characters, Raj and Simran, honored in bronze at London’s Leicester Square.
The statue unveiling—originally set for this spring to celebrate the film’s 30th anniversary—has been postponed due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam in April. According to Yash Raj Films (YRF), the delay was a necessary precaution in light of recent developments.
The Heart of London Business Alliance confirmed that the statue will eventually become part of the popular “Scenes in the Square” movie trail, joining other legendary cinematic tributes. The bronze sculpture will capture the iconic pose of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol from DDLJ, a film that has left an enduring mark on Indian cinema.
Released in 1995, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is a romantic drama directed by Aditya Chopra and produced by Yash Chopra. It tells the story of Raj and Simran, two young Indians who fall in love while traveling through Europe.
