Journalists explore Kerala's governance model and maritime infrastructure
Senior journalists from Odisha are currently experiencing the unique governance and development landscape of southern India during an official press tour. The Odisha Media Delegation, organized by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), recently held a significant meeting with the Governor of Kerala, Shri Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, to discuss the state's policy framework.
During the interaction, Governor Arlekar engaged deeply with the visiting team, offering insights into how Kerala has maintained high standards in public administration. He specifically highlighted the state's impressive track record in social sectors. According to the Governor, the backbone of Kerala’s success lies in its robust health infrastructure and the historic achievement of 100 percent literacy. He emphasized that education remains the driving force behind the state's inclusive and sustainable development.
Governor Arlekar also touched upon the cultural vibrancy and cleanliness that define Kerala. On a personal note, he warmly recalled his own visits to Odisha, sharing fond memories with the Odia journalists and exchanging views on the importance of democratic institutions.
Beyond policy discussions, the tour focused on critical infrastructure. The delegation visited the Vizhinjam International Seaport, a facility that is rapidly reshaping India's maritime capabilities. Having completed one year of commercial operations, this deep-water port is a technological marvel. Port officials briefed the team on how its natural depth of 18–20 meters allows it to handle Ultra Large Container Vessels with ease. The journalists observed the semi-automated systems that position Vizhinjam as a vital transshipment hub on the major East-West shipping routes.
The study tour also facilitated professional exchanges. The team met with Shri V. Palanichamy, Additional Director General of PIB Thiruvananthapuram, to discuss field-based journalism and government communication.
Leading the tour for PIB Bhubaneswar are Deputy Director Shri Manoj Kumar Jali and Media & Communication Officer Shri Swadhin Shakti Prasad, ensuring the team gains a comprehensive understanding of Kerala’s strategic initiatives.
