New Delhi, Mar 4: As the volatile situation in the Middle East continues, several leading airlines have announced schedule changes, flight suspensions, and additional services to mitigate passenger inconvenience and ensure continued connectivity.

Air India, on Tuesday, extended its suspension of most flights to and from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and Qatar until 23:59 IST on March 4, 2026. The airline issued a statement emphasizing that it is closely monitoring the evolving situation in the region, with safety being the top priority for passengers and crew. While most Middle Eastern flights are suspended, Air India assured that its services to North America, the UK, and Europe would continue as scheduled, albeit with alternative routing over available airspaces in the region. The airline also stated that passengers impacted by cancellations would be offered alternative travel arrangements, full refunds, or complimentary rescheduling options. Travelers have been advised to check the latest flight status on airindia.com or contact customer support for assistance.

In response to the ongoing crisis, Air Canada also announced service adjustments. The airline will add an extra frequency to its Toronto-Delhi service, operating twice daily between March 7 and 21, and use larger aircraft on certain Toronto-London-Mumbai flights to offer more routing options.

Meanwhile, SpiceJet has introduced eight special flights from Fujairah (UAE) to India to assist stranded or affected passengers. These additional flights aim to ensure that those unable to return home due to the conflict are accommodated.

The conflict in the Middle East has escalated following US and Israeli strikes on Iran, which resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, alongside other prominent figures. In retaliation, Iran has launched counter-strikes targeting American military bases and Israeli assets in the region. These military tensions continue to impact global air travel, with several major airports in the region closed for extended periods.

On a different note, IndiGo announced a new route between Chennai and Reunion Island, effective April 29. The airline will operate thrice-weekly, non-stop flights on its Airbus A320 aircraft, making Reunion Island its 46th international destination. This new service will offer travelers an opportunity to visit the French overseas territory, known for its tropical beauty and rich multicultural heritage. Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, highlighted the appeal of the island, offering travelers a unique combination of French experience and island allure.

As the situation in the Middle East remains fluid, passengers are urged to stay updated on flight statuses and consider alternative travel arrangements when necessary. Airlines are working diligently to provide support and minimize disruptions during this challenging time.
