Cyclone Montha heads towards Andhra coast: CM Naidu assesses over 3,778 villages to face the brunt

​​​​​​​Bhubaneswar, Oct 28: With the Cyclone Montha visibly approaches towards the coast at least 3,778 villages might face the brunt if the storm gusts near the Andhra Coast with its devastative landfall, said Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday.

Going through the latest newscasts of the IMD, Naidu  took account of the state’s preparedness for facing the eventuality, especially meant for the vulnerable villages along the coast nearer to the Kakinada beach.

The impending Cyclone ‘Montha’ is intensifying over the Bay of Bengal and is expected to hit the Andhra Pradesh coast near Kakinada on October 28 evening.

The IMD has warned of strong winds, high tidal waves, and flooding in Andhra and Odisha, with both states on high alert.

Cyclone ‘Montha’ is fast strengthening over the Bay of Bengal, bringing heavy rainfall, fierce winds, and rising sea waves to Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. The storm, is expected to make landfall near Kakinada between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam on October 28 evening or night, as a severe cyclonic storm with wind speeds touching 100–110 kmph.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and INCOIS, waves up to 4.7 metres are expected along the Andhra coast between Nellore and Srikakulam till late Tuesday night.
