Bhubaneswar, Oct 22: A well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression, currently situated about 730 km southeast of Paradip. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings about the potential development of a cyclone, urging residents along the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal to remain vigilant.
In preparation for the impending cyclone, the Odisha government has implemented extensive measures:
-Schools and Anganwadi centers in 14 districts, including Cuttack, Puri, and Bhadrak, will remain closed from October 23 to 25.
-The state is aiming for complete evacuation from vulnerable areas, with over 800 multipurpose cyclone shelters ready to accommodate those displaced.
-The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 11 teams in Odisha and 14 in West Bengal for swift action. Additionally, the Army, Navy, and Coast Guard have mobilized their rescue and relief teams in readiness.
-The BMC has identified 10 temporary shelters for stray animals.
-The Watco has also been asked to put measures in place to prevent any disruption in supply of drinking water.
-TPCODL has been directed to restore the power supply at the earliest in case of any damage.
The IMD has issued a red alert for several coastal districts, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by wind speeds of 100-120 kmph.
Residents in the projected path of Cyclone Dana are urged to stay updated through official channels and take necessary precautions.
