Bhubaneswar, July 11: Cyber fraud incidents in the Capital City have escalated, resulting in a staggering Rs 36 crore being swindled from January to June alone.
According to the report, the Cyber Police Station has recorded 2,394 cases, while the officials have frozen Rs 9.5 crore of illicit funds and returned Rs 46 lakh to victims.
The cases primarily involve digital theft and investment fraud, with a predominant focus on digital theft. The Police Commissioner has urged vigilance, encouraging citizens to report any suspicions of cyber fraud by dialing '1930'.
“A majority of the cyber fraud cases have involved UPI fraud, social media scams, parcel delivery scams, credit card fraud, and deceptive messages related to SIM KYC. The Commissionerate Police have successfully apprehended 21 cyber fraudsters, all of whom have been presented in court. Among them, 5 individuals were part of inter-state cyber fraud networks”, informed Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda.
