Cuttack, June 13: In a major crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, the Cuttack Police have seized 200 kilograms (2 quintals) of ganja and arrested two individuals involved in a smuggling operation. The raid was jointly conducted by the Choudwar Police and the Special Squad following a tip-off about illegal narcotics being transported through the region.
According to officials, the contraband was being smuggled from Phulbani to locations outside the state. Two vehicles — an Innova and a Maruti — used in the operation were also seized. One of the vehicles was found carrying the ganja, while the other acted as a security escort to avoid detection.
The two accused, both residents of the Siripur area in Bhubaneswar, were apprehended during the operation. However, a few members of the drug syndicate managed to flee the scene after abandoning their vehicle. A manhunt has been launched to trace and arrest the absconding individuals.
Speaking at a press conference, DCP Khilar Rishikesh Dnyandeo said the estimated market value of the seized ganja is around ₹10 lakh. He added that further investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of the smuggling network.
Police have intensified surveillance in vulnerable areas as part of their ongoing efforts to curb narcotics trade in the region.
