Cuttack, Oct 17: In view of the festive atmosphere in the Silver City ahead of Durgapuja, the Food Safety Wing of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) conducted intensive raids across various hotels, restaurants, and cafes in the city.
During the inspection drive, authorities seized and destroyed approximately 50 kilograms of stale and unhygienic food items to prevent any potential health hazards. Additionally, several establishments were issued notices for failing to maintain proper sanitary standards, while one restaurant was ordered to shut down immediately due to severely unhygienic conditions.
With the city bustling with festive shoppers and diners stepping out to celebrate, food businesses have seen a surge in activity. Prioritizing public health, a special enforcement team led by Municipal Health Officer Dr. Nrupendra Satapathy carried out surprise checks in areas including CDA (Choudhury Bazaar Development Area).
During the raids, the team also detected an unauthorized hookah bar and recovered nicotine-flavored substances from inside a restaurant.
The inspection team comprised Food Safety Officers Rashmita Behera and Bhagaban Lenka, alongside other officials. CMC authorities have warned that strict legal action will continue against commercial food outlets compromising public health during the festive season.
